Is using aquarium gravel from a petshop a good idea for firebelly newts? I have been looking at some pics of other peoples setups and very few have gravel!
It depends on what you're feeding them. If you feed live blackworms, then they disappear into the gravel, start colonies, and dump a bunch of waste in the water. The newts can't eat them and they foul the water.
