I was wondering is distilled water would be ok for newts? Like water from a de-humidifier. Since it has nothing in it shouldn't it be ok. I tested it with some test strips and it seemed to be ok but i want a second opinion!!!

thanks,

water with nothing in it seeks ions and will draw them in from the animals body...so no-but if youre adding to to another set up -like to top off or do a % water change then it should be ok-as it will stablise itself when mixed with the old water

So i should used distilled water when i do a 30% water change? Will it be better then adding tap water?
thanks,

its coming from your dehumidifier? if so its probably better than your tap which has added chemicals and picks up stuff as it travels through your pipes-some of which are copper. honestly if its sitting in the open air its getting dust and micro organisms in it anyways just by exposure to air-it should be fine -is the catch basin plastic?

ya the catch basin is plastic and it is under the humidifier so no dust can reach it.

It might be o.k. Humidifier and air conditioner water is distilled. It is not distilled in a way to be certain it is safe. My air conditioner says right on it condensate water not for human consumption. You can't be sure chemicals or minerals that you don't want aren't getting in that water. It would be a little like drinking white lightning from homemade stills. Usually it's o.k. but every now and then the impurities kill someone. I'd want my distilled water to come from a still that is certified safe fro human consumption.
