yeah but i did not think it would be a big deal and yeah i did have a lot of them when i was little so i did know about them when i got them.just they never did this before..

I'm guessing you didn't have the same species when you were little and there can be a lot of variation between species. There are similar newts in the Cynops sps. or firebelly newts that are fine in groups. Paddle-tails are quite aggressive and territorial and do best alone.

Please separate your newts or return one to the pet store or you may end up with both dying.

You can always do what I did which was to buy lots of aquatic plants for them to hide out in. I have 3 that are now co-exisiting pretty happily. They each have their own territory. They test their territory but once the owner shows his face the tester goes back into his area. I also feed each of them in their own territory so they don't have to fight over the food.

How large is your tank, Nicole? I suspect that a larger tank helps too. If Maria is trying to keep 2 in a 5 or 10-gallon tank, this may be part of the problem.

I have a 56 gallon tank. I would imagine she should be able to split up a 10 gallon, but yes, a 5 gallon would probably be too small.
