Air stone?

I have been reading through the articles trying to find out what I could be doing wrong and why my newt is sick and I came across the part about needing oxygen in the water. None of my tanks have an airstone or anything of that kind, is this something I need to look into?

Oxygenated water is good, but water without enough oxygen is not likely to be the direct cause of your newt's illness. It will keep some beneficial bacteria from thriving in the water which might allow the water to get out of balance and become toxic.
If your newt is already sick, an airstone is unlikely to cure him. But it might prevent your water from going bad in the future. At least that's how I understand it to work.
More knowledgeable people here will be able to help you in greater detail if you can provide a picture and some symptoms.

There are two situations where I might recommned adding an airstone to a tank. One, if you have a solid glass lid on the tank, as this allows no air exchange, so an air pump is needed to bring in fresh air. Two, if the filter does not agitate the surface of the tank at all. In the second case, it may still not be absolutely critical to have an airstone, but it will prevent surface scum.
