Substrate for larvae

My 2 larvae have legs and the larger one has been making walking movements. The bottom of the tank is too slippery for them to walk though.

Is it important that they have traction for walking? I was thinking of putting gravel in, except I'm afraid their blackworms would hide in it.

Do they have back legs or just front legs, my newt larvae has only front legs, but it walks across the bottom none the less.

They have front and back legs. I have a floating platform in them for when they're ready to come out, but nothing on the tank bottom.

Yes, gravel will just give the blackworms a place to hide. I would leave the bottom bare. A few small pebbles are OK.
