Is there anything wrong...

how big is the adult? and whats the size diffrence? If it dosen't look like the juvie could end up in the adults mouth its most likely ok, or at least I would consider it pretty safe if there is enough space and cover.

i would think that it is possible for the larger adult to hog most if not all the food (well this really depends on how much food you put out) but i would separate them if there is a considerable size difference.

mine are pretty gentile and treat the babies i had in with them ok-its a 95% aquatic set up (lots of floating plants and a small platform), so im not sure if they'd behave different on land.

It depends on the individuals. Most of my C.o. get along great, except for a couple individuals at meal time. These animals I hand feed separately (leaving them in the same tank), luring them away from the others with food. This seems to sate their appetites enough that they calm down. Should any not "get along", they would be separated. So far I have not had to do this. "Knock on wood".

I found it interesting when I had 3 juves and 2 mature adults (breeding pair) in same tank, the juves would spy the situation, "sneak" in the food dish, eat their dinner, then scram when Ma and Pa showed up. This was routine. I did eventually give the 3 juves their own tank so they could eat in peace.

See, I've had this juvie for about a year now, and it's first tankmate escaped and died. The second two were alienated (also juvies) from the food source from the newt and ended up dying. These guys have been getting along amazingly though, haven't seen any violence or competition, I often see them curled up together under moss or leaves, little guy always chillin' on top of the adult. I totally lucked out at the pet store, the manager has been nurturing and caring for several adult C.o's in an unlabeled tank for over 6 months now, and won't sell them to customers unless he trusts them to take care of the little guys, so I got the adult completely unstressed (as so many pet store firebellies are

) and with a healthy appetite. There seems to be little competition for food, as the adult was only fed crickets and the juvie doesn't seem to like crickets, I have a dish of tubifex for the juvie, which the adult, thus far has ignored, though he'll take the worms with forceps.

By the way, looking back at this now, I realize that blurb about the pet store is fairly random--but I've been looking for another CFB for months an months, have scoured north to south of Arizona and turned up empty handed, getting this newt was a very happy day for me. And seeing their smooth interaction with each other is even more amazing.
