Newt egg refrigeration

Just a thought,
Anyone ever thought about suspending newt eggs' development by keeping them refrigerated? What might happen then?
Thanks, D

Yep- cheers, Elvis!
What sort of temperatures would be recommended?

I know this has been done with axolotl eggs, but I don't know for how long. The temperature would depend on the tolerance of the species. I think that the longer they were held at low temperature, the greater the risk that they would die.

I agree with Jen. However, why would one want to stall egg development and risk higher mortalities?

Too many eggs over too short a season. Could it be possible to re-start the eggs during a quieter period?

Alpestris are quite cold-hardy and could probably survive some period of refrigeration. But I doubt that this is the answer to the problem.

Even if you could delay them for a few weeks, your newts will probably still be laying MORE eggs at that point. If you have more than you can handle, I would strongly suggest offering them to other people to raise, or simply letting the adults eat the eggs/larvae.
