I have 2 males and 2 females, 2 50 gallon tanks in a tandem configuration dry side and wet side, and I've been feeding them mealworms, crickets, and salmon(cut into strips). Now to my question, 1 of the females has a swollen abdomen and genitals and has not been eating as much. Should I be concerned? the other salamanders look ok. They are over a year old. I need to pick up a camera and post some pics.

Great website I'm glad I found it I'll be sending a donation your way.

As a word of caution.....if you find a few vets that see exotics, you should still call in advance and ask specifically if they treat salamanders. You'd be surprised how many exotic vets don't treat or know almost nothing about newts/salamanders. This happened to me over the summer when I was searching for a vet....call first!

Thank you very much for the help

All is well now, she was constipated. I had to change her diet

I am curious if you found any vets in Chicago that treat newts/salamanders. Glad your monster got better.

Nothing in chicago, There are some in NWI. I'll get the info and PM it to ya. You could also try calling Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine
