Question about Fire Salamander

I had a few questions about Fire Salamanders. Firstly, is it necessary to keep them in pairs, or can they be housed by themselves? Also, would a 12x12x12 terrarium be large enough for a single, assuming they can be kept singly? I appreciate any info you might have!

not an expert since i've only had my fire sal for a month but most amphibs seem to be solitary animals due to natural behavior for food, shelter, surival needs. some species in pairs seem to be territorial and aggressive but i haven't read anything here about that with fire sals. others like tarichas seem like the rabbits of newts ready to hump anything

depending on the animal size and pairing tank size is important. the species guide on the caudate culture site list some recomended tank sizes. i house my lone 5 inch in a clear plastic tub about 33inL x 16inW x 15inH. he appears to have plenty of room, has his favorite spots but can be found anywhere in the tank but he isn't the most active fella. i had no work today and he's moved maybe 5inches in either direction in his tank and now in one of he's now ontop this hollow log thing just chilling.

hopefuly me chiming in here will bump this post up and some other member will chime in here
