Feeding babies

Hi there,
just wondering how much other new axie mums and dads were feeding their babies. I have had mine for 4 weeks and they were a few months old then ( actual age not known). they seem to be constantly hungry and one in particular seems to watch me from the top of the tank while i am cooking! i bought frozen blood worms from the pet shop and was told to give about 1/4 a cube a day ( acutally don't know if that was each or both!) anyway i am trying to feed them only twice a day- about 1/4 cube ea in total( or beef mince). but i feel that they must have supper too coz when i look into their tank they both look up expectantly. also go by the size of the wee tummies.

They're opportunistic feeders, and will appear 'hungry' all the time. Once they associate people with food, they'll be constant beggars.

How big are they? Around 10cm or so, I fed mine a chunk of earthworm as big as their head every other day (switched from having food available constantly). Feed them until they look a little fat. Once they get a bit skinny, it's time for food again (if it's warm, this will be daily or every other day)

Mine are 3 inches now, and I feed them a big meal of blackworms 1 time a day. They have grown so fast and I think it is due to giving them all the food they can use. Besides, I think it would be hard to overfeed juvies.

HI there thanks for that- i think they are just under 10cm- they have grown so much! i have to say the only time my little "special needs" axie seems to be able to sink is when he has a realy full tummy!

By the way, I have had trouble getting them to eat bloodworms(frozen) at all. They went from brine shrimp, then daphnia, then blackworms and now earthworms and blackworms. I tried blood worms around the same time as blackworms and they must have decied then that sushi is better than freezer food. They only take live food. Is this unusual?

HI, my little piglets love the blood worms- i let them thaw slightly tho', seems mean feeding them frozen.

My 2 babies (new family members) are about 7-8cm long and are also piglets!! They ate a block and a half of thawed blood worms between them last night and snapped up pieces of meal worm this morning as though they hadn't been fed for weeks. Mine don't get live food - my 2 babies or my 2 teenagers - but do get a wide variety. Pellets, blood worm, beef heart, brine shrimp (all frozen which I thaw first) and meal worms out of a can.

I have found that by feeding my bigger axies something different each time, they haven't become as fussy as some of the axolotls out there seem to be.

P.S. I have a feeling that beef mince may be a bit high in fat content - But please check some other posts before taking my word for it.

Yes aren't they wee piggies. I think i am starting to know when they are really famished when they start nipping at anything in sight- including each other!! i will try and only do the mince occasionally. er gave them some raw schnitzel last nite- they watch me cooking tea- what am i supposed to do!! now the dog waits by their tank too! i love the way one of them walks over the stones searching for food- the other little guy has lived a the top from day1- he rarely sinks- also eats like a piggy...
