...that my big boy (or girl) Slinky has fin ally produced his first feathery gill strand and more are gowing!!

That's good to hear, Adelle.

Just keep him cool and try to feed him a little extra, as growing new gills takes lots of energy.
 
Will do. I cant believe how sweet these little creatures are. They are so cute and interesting!
 
Problem is now Wisp the little one has completley lost his one set of fluffy red gills and is left qith a stump that has turned white. Looks like its about to grow more feathery bits. Oh well, they look happy enough and are eating. His other gills have really grown long and flowy so ill keep an eye on him and wont worry too much.
 
Mine did the same thing for a while . The temp in the tank was a little high. What is the temp in your tank?
 
it was 20 for quite while then kept going uo to 21 and 22. now its 19
