Water contamination questions.

I have 2 questions at the monent.

1) you know when you buy plants from a shop and they have a metal wire rapped around the roots. Well i think its lead. It bends really ewasily and the only metal i know that bends like that is lead. I want to make sure, so i dont poison and kill my axolotls.

2) Im not sure exactly but i have some king if small rash, about the size of a penny on mhy wrist. I dont treat it with anything so would it be ok if i can still use that arm in the tank, or will that contaminate the water.

It's pewter, and no, you don't have to worry about it contaminating the tank.

Er...are you talking about some sort of topical treatment? I'd work with clean hands and arms if I were you.
 
Is it ring worm? Should be treated if it is....
Some of those here, are lead... at least that is what they told me, and said i should always take them off.
 
The plant strips are lead, not pewter. Pewter is too expensive to use as plant sinkers. I always take mine off and tie the plants to a rock or something instead.

I would wear gloves to keep the rash on your arm from going into the tank. Ringworm is a fungus, but I don't know about it's ability to affect amphibs.
 
Stipe, I didnt know what the metal was, but even with goldfish ive never trusted it (ya know, jus incase). I generally swap the metal for a large rubber band that is tied tightly enough to be kept together, but not that tight the my plant dies, or even gets soft around the root.
 
Thanks for the advice and respones guys,
I never used my left arm in the water, even no the rash is not fading. My guess is that the rash mught be an alergic reaction to a chemical i use in my tank, eg test kit chemicals or som medicen etc.
I took of all the metal stipes and replaced them with rubber bands.

If these rings are actualy lead i can put lead poisoning on the suspected murderer list of my poor mala.
 
But then again Stipe, wasnt she in the same tank the other axies were in?
Wouldnt they also be somewhat effected? Maybe not to the extent that Mala was (as she passed - sorry Stipe

).. but wouldnt they also have been atleast a little bit sick?
