I'm in a kind of sticky situation. You see axies and other amfibians and reptiles are stricktly forbidden here in Norway. I got my axie in Sweden, our neighbour country. I didn't think much about it before I bought my little sweet heart, but I am now. You see, I'm living at home for the time with my mom, but she doesn't know about the axie. How can I tell her?

I know this is really immature of me, but it's too late now.

does ur mum no what an axolotl looks like. if not just say its a catfish or somthing like that, just make up a name and say its a fish. i know thats immature but thats what id do.
 
Thats not such a bad idea.. My mum knows i love catfish. But I feel bad not being honest with her.
 
What she doesn't know can't hurt her. Are you afraid she'll turn you into the authorities? If your mother is not the type to do that, then I'd tell her. And obviously if the axolotl didn't get confiscated at the border, I doubt this law is policed too strictly.
 
Mom would never turn me in... unless I killed someone, but that isn't the issue in my case luckily.

If the authorities get to know about my axie they will confiscate and kill it. At the border between Norway and Sweden they don't check every car, only a car once in a while, because we have this special agreement between the countries. We don't need passports to visit Sweden although we are not a member of EU (European Union)

The reason I don't know what to say is because I don't want to upset her. She will get really upset if she got to know that she in fact is housing an illegal animal

dont tell her then. tell her its something else... would you rather have your mum happy and thinking about your lovely new catfish or constantly on the look out for police cars etc?
 
Maybe you could say it was a "waterdog" or "mexican walking fish" or some name that they don't use to describe axolotls in Norway, then if your mum finds out what it is you can play dumb and say, "I had no idea it was called an axolotl... I thought an axolotl was some kind of lizard".

thats actually a good idea casey... that way if she catches you out you can play dumb and get away with it...

Lots of places have weird import laws. I think california has some good ones too.
 
Yep, sure does.

Axies are illegal to ship in and out of this state, but not illegal for them to be in the state. Go figure

Just tell her its a tiger salamander that has something very wrong with it and doesn't seem to get out of the larval stage. Rheann, thats one well thought out pair of laws.

jeff tiger salamanders go under the catagorie of amphibians and reptiles (i think lol), as tina said, the strictly forbid any axolotls amphibians or reptiles. tina lying is such a harsh word, i prefer 'messarging reality'.
 
Man they are uptight. Norway is pretty cold in the winter, I doubt any reptiles would survive if they escaped unless native, which I can't remember any reptiles or amphibians that are native to norway specifically.

Hehe.. All amfibians and reptiles have been fobidden to sell, buy and keep since 1977 because of the climate. The authorities think that it is animal cruelty to keep them since they are cold blooded and need a warmer environment. They've obviously never heared of heating cages.
Now, they will not alter the law because some reptiles need food in form of guineapigs and such, and some snakes infact are dangerous...

Also people keeping these wounderfull creatures illegaly in Norway today are thought of as dangerous criminals by the state. I have never broken a law as far as I know (before this) and I don't think of myself as any kind of criminal.

As you can guess, the secret keeping of amfibians and reptiles is flourishing here in Norway, due to the law.

I finally got the guts to tell my parents. My dad thought it was funny and started laughing like never before.
Mum felt really hurt and thought it would be best if I took it back to Sweden. She hates my devotion to animals and thought it might be best if I concentrated on studies in stead..

I feel so reliefed! And I didn't lie about the legalty of axies either. Mum didn't even know they were illegal!!!!!!

Glad it all went well, Tina! Especially after you being so honest!It would have been a lot easier to tell them its just a walking fish...But make sure to mention to your mum you may get into trouble if you try to take it back to Sweden!Because if they search you, and find you carrying an illegal animal, you may be in trouble! And am sure your mum wouldn't want that
