I was in flemington at paddy's markets in sydney and all the pet shops had litarly 20 axies in a 30cm by 20cm tank.!!!!! They where all ontop of each other and half had thier feet or arms bitten off with barly any gills!!! I was really pised so i went up to the owner and told her about it and all she said was 'it'll grow back', and this mad me even mader she thinks that they'er some machine. Then i asked her how long are they in that tanks for and she gos haf the day. and they refill that small tank everyday when they put the axies in. The tank isnt cycled checked or anything. ggrrr i wish i could call some animal people on them.

this isnt a uncommon thing, sadly i have seen many a thing in pet shops that make me want to cry. one shop in particular i walk into and get bombarded my the staff asking about their fish and how to look after them, really they shouldnt have got the job if they didnt know that oscars cant be put in with tetras!!!

i Know! They had tatras with goldfish, the ghostthingy fish and feeder barker fish all in the same tank. GRRR! they had goldfish with the axies and only removed them when i told them!! grrr!

Petshops are terrible for animals sometimes. They just want to sell the pets, they could care less if the pets are healthy or not.

Yes some no most petshpes are horrible for newts fish ext, but they really should visit places like this because they have NO CLUE what they are doing..

Its always a good idea to point websites like this out to them to give a little helpful hint, though i doubt they care.

Actually My local petstore owner, My old science teacher, Has joined this place and i think the old fart has a hoot as he says..

Yeh tell me about it, I went into a local aquarium shop to get my water tested because I'm cycling which I TOLD the shop assistant... and the lady pulled out a pH test and I'm like 'nah - I need the ammonia and nitrite levels tested, the pH is fine' and she looked at me like I was an alien and said something like 'what do you mean? pH is all you need to worry about in a tank'

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!!! Does anyone else find it ironic that I, a mere beginner, had to explain cycling to someone who works in a specialist aquarium shop??? Needless to say, I found an excellent onine shop and ordered a master test kit the next day. And can I just ad that this forum is best ever??? If it wasn't for the help of all you guys I'd be as ignorant as the staff in that aquarium store... Thanks peeps!

That's what we're here for, to correct the 'pet shop experts'.

Damn ! went into 2 different aquarium shops today and both of them had Axolotls and they were all in a discusting condition !!! one shop had the water running so fast it was actually blowing the gills of the axie around it was way too fast, imagine say a Fluval 304 canister pump outlet not regulated at all in a 60x30x30cm tank.. and in another tank the axies in there were missing all of there gills on one side and chunks out all over

and skinny as
the worst condition ones were at a very big pet store chain "I WISH I COULD NAME THEM" but for legal reasons i wont....
they should know better !!! i will just tell every one i know not to go there

DOnt jsut do that confont them and if they dont change threaten them b saying you will call the local animal authority, thats jsut discusting, grrrrr.

You would think that their fish suppliers would give them some clue as to how to care for each species.

But then again they probably don't listen if they are told.

fish suppliers prob dont even give a dam too unles they got them from a breeder but i doubt they did as it would be abit expensive.

Hi guys,
i have seen a fish tank in a pet shop that had 3 siamese fighting fish in a tank with 6 axies. ofcorce all of the axies were chewed up.

OMG!!!Reading this makes me so mad, those petshop guys are lucky it wasnt me who saw those axies with the fighting fish, first off axies are cold water, fighters are warm! Also the fighters should have tanks of thier own,or at least be separated with dividers. The little bobbing carrot axies are still at my local, they must not feed much as they never grow. They have learnt if they sit bent around in the corner beside the filter it is a bit more still, but when your brother comes to join you it becomes a squeeze. And,the high price means nobody is interested,so they are stuck with it.I'm almost tempted to try get a job there to do my bit to ease stress for them!!
