Hi
iv'e had a resin pipe configuration thing that i brought from an aquarium shop sold as aquarium products.
it has been in my tank for about 2 weeks now and it started to grow white fur so i took it out and washed it with just hot water and a fresh sponge but paint started to come off, i also cut myself a few times cleaning the inside of it !
i want to return it to the shop as it cost me $50
and i dont like how the paints coming off
how do u recon i'll go ?

Tell 'em it's defective. If paint's flaking off the first time you wash it, it's rubbish.

Not sure about consumer law in Australia but in Britain if something you've bought is not 'fit for purpose' or doesn't last you have every right to take it back and complain. Ask for a refund!

yep ur exactly right Laura, it's the same here
"fit for purpose" i rang the shop and just got a couple of real smart assed attitudes from the owner and an employee, so rang consumer affairs and u were spot on. so had to write the aquarium shop a letter
and wait up to 7 days for a reply then it's in the hands of consumer affairs !
if they hadn't of been so smart with me i probably would have let it go, BUT cause they were i will now follow it through to the bitter end ! grrr

good job, they can be such arrogant b**tards at those shops. hope you get on well with it!!

That aquarium shop obviously doesn't value its customers very much - I don't expect you'll be recommending it now! Glad you are putting the complaint in writing. Good luck!

well this is how cocky they are ! i sent the letter and it was sent back to me as return to sender opened, "security seal broken" with no reply what so ever...
it's going to make me feel so good when i return "all" my ornaments, cause made of the same stuff..
total of $175..
i have also told many many people about my ordeal so it's just not my business thev'e lost but many other sales "how stupid can they be"
for the sake of "originally" a $50 item !
i was also going to buy a Salamander off him and all the stuff to go with it b4 all this happened
but i was speaking to another aquarium shop and they recon he does it all wrong and the salamanders are in a very bad condition !!!
but hey with his know it all attitude u just couldn't tell him !
i should have known not to go back there after he got all fired up with me saying a sand substrate was bad for Axolotl's and he recommended about 2-5mm pebbles and said the people on this forum dont know what they were talking about "lol"
he was acting like i was insulting him because i didnt beleave him lol

Some people just haven't got a clue when it comes to customer relations. Or axolotl care, sadly.
I'm glad you've found another shop to go to.
It seems stupid that they've made such a fuss about you returning the ornaments when I assume that they weren't actually made by the shop itself. Surely he should be getting on to the manufacturers about the problem.
Anyway, the main thing is that he's lost business as a result.
Hope it goes well returning your whole ornament collection!
