One gilled axolotl

my axolotl was born with only one gill and i have no idea why, i will put a picture soon (it is only a larva) will grow or will he have only one gill?

there is quite alot of possible answers. he may die if no more grow because of the lack of oxygen getting to him, or he may have to have special requirements ie: super airated water, he may also gulp air alot more. more may grow as he is only young but generally they are born 'fully gilled'. are these your personal babies you hatched? or did you buy him? pics would help. oh as an after thought maybe if he was kept with other babies they might have nipped his gills off.

i looked closer and it looks like it is growing back so i guess that it was nipped off by the other babies. but at the beginning it looked like he just didn't had a gill and i got him from a friend.

thank you any way.
the picture is not soo good but its the best that i can take because of its size
