Adding a new axi!

hi, im thinking about getting another axi 2day because the pet store have some nice black ones and i think mine is getting a bit lonely. just concerned that mine is about 1 year old and about 18 cm the one i want to buy is about 4 months old and is around 12 cm. would it be safe? i dont have another tank to put him in if mine gets a bit aggressive. thanks.
 
quarentine is reccomend but when i didnt know to much i just put them all in together. nothing happened but it could!!! it should be find, i had a 20cm with a 10cm and it was ok. just watch for agression, maybe get a tank divider
 
Hi

It depends on the axie's temperment. I had a 22cm with a 10cm and they loved each other, never wanted to be apart.

But I only risked putting them together because I'd had the bigger one for 3 years and knew how placid she was.

As Sharn said, if they do become aggressive just use a tank divider.

I'd recommend watching them closely for as long as you can on the initial meeting, just to make sure.

iv neva acutally watched a tank with two axolotls for a long time do they actually get along and play and stuff? do they hunt together?
 
no not really. they keep to themselves apart from piling on top of each other and the occasional nip or two at feeding time, i dont think its because theyre angry but because they mistake it for food
 
My two just ignored each other at first, then the smaller one started following Elsa.

She turned round and they had their faces right next to each other, I thought, this is it, she's gonna eat him, but she just sat there.

The eventually moved away from each other and from then on they just sat near each other

Unfortunately Elmo (the little one) died, he began floating, was full of air I think.

To this day I wonder whether it was brought on by the stress of Elsa being there?
Even though they seemed to want to be near each other, I just wonder whether it was too scary for Elmo as Elsa was so much bigger than he was?

i have 4 larva axolotls they are 2 weeks old (they are brothers and sisters) will they be ok with each other?
 
If there's insufficient space, they will cannibalize each other, but as long as there's enough room, they'll be fine.

At 2 weeks, you can't tell the sex of them yet.
