Pyramids!

I have noticed that my male is producing pyramids ( spermatophore) every few weeks, which I syphon up ( can be awkward little critters!). Having read the breeding page I was able to identify it. My other axolotl is still 4-5 months old and shown no signs of maturing yet, so have no ideas yet on its sex. Do the males automatically produce these pyramids regardless to there being a female around? or is knowing that the other is female and reaching maturity( I am aware that they don't change/evolve sex)They don't seem to have birth control for axolotl, so it looks like I'll need to separate them as she would be to young to sensibly breed....oh this is worse than the anxieties of bringing up children..and I have 3 of them!

Oh yeah. I had 3 males in one tank and found spermatophores all the time. Sometimes they'll even try to to 'court' other males.

Thats good to know! they are behaving very oddly at the moment. The golden un-sexed juvenile one ( princess) is looking more rounded...not smooth but slightly lumpy and not evenly on both sides. also her top fin is looking kind of wavy. Jeffrey is appearing to be very protective..(not in any sort of bullying way) and keeping close to her, to the extent that he curls his tail around her. She may well be looking rounded as she has eaten a lot more over the last couple of days. Was aiming to take a photo of her but shes gone into their tube..will try later

When she comes out if you can try to get a shot from above. I'am not an expert but it sounds like she has eggs.

When they eat, they can get lumpy. The organs are not equally distributed on both sides, so they can get more rounded on one side. As for the tail fin, tall or large fins are more wavy than smaller fins. I've got one that's really wavy, while the rest are just 'normal'.

How old is the golden?

only 4 to 5 months and 17cm ( second hand lotty)..no grey toes!So I'm pretty sure she's not carrying eggs now from what Kaysie said...nearly all my male pets usually produce young despite assurances!. Will keep a close eye on her/him to look for maturing signs . And if it is female I'll separate them till she is older.
