Need to find new home for my baby

My beautiful axi's are in trouble. I have not posted here for a while but I have been following threads and all the helpful hints I recieved last time I posted.
Jacqui unfortunately passed away yesterday, quite suddenly from the white fungis stuff, I have decided that I can no longer keep Miles as I CAN NOT watch him decline as she did.

I am looking for a home WITH CHILLER already set up in the northern NSW area. I cannot afford to buy a chiller and the water bottles worked to a degree, but I think they were getting way way too hot at night when I was sleeping.

It breaks my heart to have to do this but I would rather see Miles go to a good home with the adequate set up than keep going hoping I can get him through the summer. At the moment he is in the fridge, but it is too cruel to keep him in there by himself for God knows how long.

If you think you can help, please respond asap as I worried sick.

PLEASE CAN YOU HELP ME!
I cannot take him back to the shop as I am planning make a complaint to the RSPCA about living conditions of their animals, and their happiness to sell animals that need special requirements that they don't even know about let alone can cater to.
If you have a chiller and have the heart and room for one more axi, please respond asap. I cannot watch him suffer anymore

Why don't you put him in a chilli bin, Im not an expert on these things but I heard it was able to be done, It would keep it at a constant temperature too. Don't give up let the wee fella voice be heard and help it out!

Row, a norwegian or danish axie owner, female, kept their axolotl in the fridge for the whole summer as they had extreme heats and she was able to feed it too (think it was round 8/9 degrees); with no problem. Maybe that would be an idea to consider if you do want to keep him, though I realise it probably is a lot of work doing constant daily waterchanges etcetera. Also a few australian owners have bar fridges or 2nd hand fridges which they pop their axies into during hotspots of summer.

Thanks for your suggestion guys...I have been thinking about buying them their own special fridge as it is hard to fit food around two containers of water! He just seems so depressed in there. He's missing his mate and it seems like he will probably be only able to stay a few months in his tank during the whole year!
At the moment I cannot afford to buy a special fridge or a chiller for him....my sister bought the whole set up for my birthday, the pet shop man assuring us that that is all I need to keep him!
All I want is for him to be able to enjoy as close to his natural environment as possible - in the fridge he only has five litres of water cause it won't take any more weight. I know he is safer in there with a more constant temp. its just not much of a life for the little bugger.
I just had a thought. Do you think I could use those polystyrene chiller boxes cut to shape around the outside of the tank to help insulate?
I'm desperate to keep him healthy. I just don't know what else to do.

If you do a search you might be able to find some threads relating to homemade chillers; that could be an idea. I think from reading old threads there were a few aussies using chilly bins/esky and ice packs surrounding a container/small tank.

If you have a vegetable draw like most fridges, you could take it out a slide in a small tank for him to be in, Unless of course you like vegetables more then you axolotl :p

Sam, that is an AWESOME idea! i have struggled when my little ones have been sick, to fit them in with all the food. You have solved my long time issue! I cant believe i didnt think of that, thanks heaps!

I will look into the homemade chiller idea asap. I thought about the vege section in my fridge, but its an old second hand fridge with a cracked draw and breaking shelves! I was able to maintain a consistant temp during the day in the tank, its just at night that it is spiking to ridiculous temps. Usually when I am asleep....I only worked this out since my worry for my baby is keeping me up most of the night. My whole set-up, my house and their tank is just shithouse!
Thanks very much for the feedback and suggestions. I am very appreciative of the help and would not have got this far without the help of this website. I just wish that it was mandatory for people selling these animals to read this site as alot of suffering could be avoided!
