Tank is 30 gallons long but i have only in my history kept One. Im wondering what are the odds of two Fighting or Biteing?

Hard to predict. It depends on size and personality. Keeping them well-fed will obviously reduce the chances of problems. Having plenty of hiding places in the tank also helps.

that pretty much means stick with one for less hassle. thanks

In that big of a tank, you should have no problems with keeping two healthy, similar sized axolotls.

yeah but i look around on this forum and i see alot of HELP SO AND SO JUST ATE EACH OTHER. Wich is given me douts.

Speaking of Hideing places, i think i have to go to the hardware store and see what PCP pipes i can get.

I have 4 together in a very very large house. at one time, they had to be kept in a 20 long for a few weeks. You know what? no one got eaten or hurt or sick while in the 20 long! I keep mine well fed with many hiding spots. Even though there are many hiding spots mine like to hug each other in the same cave. While in the 20 long I also kept them in obervation to see what sort of aggression they would display. I quickly mapped out their behavior when it came to interacting with others they come across and agression seen during feeding. No one in my family appeared to display violent behavior.

so a good rule is, you can keep a whole large happy axolotl family. The secret is, keep well fed, plenty of hiding spots, and always observe to see if one starts to become a bully. A good and healthy axolotl house should have no problem keeping an axolotl family nice and safe. If you neglect their care they may act out, so keep up with care.

Hi,
Just my two cents worth.
I put 5 in a large tank,
all was well for a time then
1 male became aggressive towards the others.
He was removed, and the other 4 have
lived happily together since.
I agree with Jennifer it depends on the size and
the personality of the axie/s.
Cheers,
Chris.

so the best hope is i get 2 females, or 1 male 1 female and HOPE not to get 2 males.

well i just gotta joine in
i`ve got 4 males and 6 females in the same tank and i have had no biting what so ever.
it seems to me that they use gill size to determin there pecking order, at dinner time the axies wawe there gills at each other and the smallest gills just backs of

I keep some tanks of all males, some all females and others with both. Some tanks have five in them some have up to 13. None of my 85 permanent resident axolotls are missing feet. Some of the tanks do not even really have hiding places except some bushy plants. Just keep similar sized axolotls in ample housing and you should have no problems. Usually after about a year or two of age they will stop biting and causing damage to each other for the most part.
