Removeing salt from Tank?

Ok my tank has about 6 teaspoons of aquarium salt in it and the tank is 30 gallons.

Before i hear blah blah blah axolotls dont like salt i know that and there is no axolotl in the tank.

Any ways if i remove 5 gallons of water every other day how long do you think until its safe?
 
This can be calculated exactly. Each 5-gallon water change removes 5/30ths (16%) of the existing salt.

Water change#1 removes .96 tsp of salt, leaving about 5 tsp.
Water change#2 removes .80 tsp of salt, leaving about 4.2 tsp.
Water change#3 removes .67 tsp of salt, leaving about 3.5 tsp.
Water change#4 removes .56 tsp of salt, leaving about 2.9 tsp.
etc.... you do the math...

I would highly recommend that you change more than 5 gallons and/or more frequently than every other day, or this will take a long time. The water should be OK when you get it down to about 1 tsp remaining.
 
Are you sure axolotls don't like salt? A research note I read on Herp digest this week said axolotls do poorly in the wild if the water is not saline enough. My guess is axolotls do better with a little salt added or in hard water. I have hard water so rarely add salt but don't think a little would hurt them. If I had soft water I would be looking to add some type of salts, calcium, or Hoftretters solution.
 
I add aquarium salt to my soft water. Their natural habitat has some salinity in it.
 
That's a good point from Michael and Joan. It may not be necessary to remove so much of the salt.
 
if i remember correctly last check i did on my water it was "soft".

So when it apears to be between soft and hard when i test it, you would say my water is ok for a axolotl?
 
i think that axies like the water slightly brackish and it helps prevent any fungal infections
 
Brackish is probably not accurate, but they do like 'hard' water.
