Transporting my Axolotl

I have a studly axolotl that I unfortunately have to transport long distances every so often. I'm attending college about five hours away from home, and come vacation time, I bring him along. I'm curious what the best way to transport is. Currently I use a small reptile carrier and I try to drive smoothly. Because there is still room for the water to splash around, I can tell its very disturbing for him. If you've got any suggestions, let me know.

Use a ice chest or cooler for the transport and keep the axolotl in a large bag of water in the cooler. This can then be padded out to prevent excess sloshing around. The ice chest will also help maintain the cool temperatures the axolotl prefers.
