I sometimes give mine a treat of chopped mussel with the rubbery bits removed. But you can't go wrong with the diet you are feeding yours.

Hi there, we also give snippets of raw fish ( just plain white fish), schnitzel and liver. Used to give bits of mince but it seems too fatty. our little guys eat everything.

ok thankyou for your info i will try my 2 axies on the same stuff as i want to give them a variety

You can also feed them a variety of insects and insect larvae. It's usually best to stick with softer ones, like waxworms, moths (from a pesticide -free source), etc. I feed mine crickets a fair amount. Just avoid the food that bites back, like mealworms.

thankyou joan i have heard from a site that you can feed them crickets but then i never listen to everything i hear from some web sites but i will try them on crickets and see if they like them do you feed them crickets on a daily basis?

i know this is gonna sound like a silly question but as you can tell im new to keeping axies but when you feed your axies do you give them live crickets?

i give mine live crickets, they move around more and the axies go after them faster. you could give them dead ones to but i dont think they would be as nutritoius.

I feed my axies about 3 times a week, give or take. They usually won't take crickets that are floating on the surface, so they need to be 'enticed' with some tweezers. Live crickets are preferable, they wiggle more

This page has a pretty comprehensive list of food options:
http://www.caudata.org/cc/articles/foods.shtml
Just pick out ones that are suitable for a large aquatic species, as the article includes foods that would apply only to smaller or terrestrial species.

I would suggest a good-quality pellet food, but i don't know what's available in England.

ok ty all so much

i went to my pet shop last night to see if i could get some pellets but they said they dont do them so im guessing the shop where i got my axies from will have them if not they might be able to get some for me.

daphnia, once youve got a starter (some people say just throw banana skins/cow poop in a container and wait) they just boom if you have enough for them to eat. they just love green water and multiply like anything im told. if you know of any farmers (not dairy farmers cause apparently they put minerals in their troughs) that have still ponds or troughs ask if you can have a look in there.

We actually get daphnia really cheap in our tropical fish shop i did get some and put it in the tank with my 2 axies but they didnt even go near it they just wasnt intrested. Is this normal for them not to touch it

Daphnia are too small to be considered food for adult axolotls.

my axies are only about 4.5" so i think they are still babies

Hi, i'm having trouble feeding my axie. Yesterday i gave it frozen bloodworm and it ate about half straight away and left the rest. Today i tried trout pellets (i am really unsure if these are right - look like pellets u would feed to trout rather than pellets made of trout). He just hasnt touched them he wasnt the slightest bit interested so i removed them and put in bloodworms again and he hasnt touchwed these either. Is it because hes not hungary? I am used to keeping fish which just eat all the time

Also how can i teach him to take food from the surface?

I had one axie(now dead) that used to come to the surface for food. I have started to train one to do the same. What you do is start off by rigeling the food infront of his face and each time moving the food furthere away each time you feed him, untill you can just wriggle the food in the surface and he will swim up to investigate.

Only feed your axie every second or third day as overfeeding can leead to sikness. Personly i prefer live food but pelets are fine, but im not shour if trout are due to me never feeding myne them

Where fo Kiwi's get crickets from??
also wouldn't they be too hard and crunchy?

in summer i just catch crickets outside. i havnt found any where that sells them though.
