Gulping air

is swimming to the surface and gulping air normal? mine has been doing it every 5 mins or so for about the last hour.
 
it is normal but not at the frequency ur axie is doing it. is the tank well airated and whats the water paremeters?
 
he is in a temporary tank at the moment so there is no filter. will be back in his normal tank tomorrow. changed the water a few hours ago and he became more active. has stopped gulping as much as he was. only every now and again
