Hi! My names Jenni and i'm not just a newbie to this forum but also to keeping Axolotls! I have two leucistic axolotls which i haven't named (mainly cos i'm still trying to differentiate between them!)

They're lovely and are managing to find their way round their new home ok.

Had a bit of a panic sunday morning tho... my ammonia and Nitrite levels had shot up over night (possibly due to the 'petshop' water they came in) and one of them had spit up his undigested food! not good... blummin pet shops!

However, the other half has kept these little fella's before and we've treated the water and are keeping an eye on them... fingers crossed they'll feel a bit better...

They do seem to like balancing on the plants tho...

*Tuesday*
They're doing much better now tho and the ammonia has been converted from toxic to non-toxic... They've been eating bloodworm like its going out of fashion and are looking very cute and happy again...

Jenni - Welcome to the forum.

The problem you are having with ammonia could be that the tank is not cycled, or doesn't have enough beneficial bacteria to handle the waste from 2 axolotls. Adding chemicals to lock the ammonia is not the best route to go.

If your tank was not set up and cycled at least 30 days before you put the axolotls in it is probably not ready for your axolotls.

This is a good article on cycling: http://www.caudata.org/cc/articles/cyclingEDK.shtml
You can use google to look up more information on "aquarium cycling".

You should also read http://www.axolotl.org caudata's sister site. It is full of axolotl care information.

After reading those if you have questions or need more information feel free to ask your questions here. The members of this forum are very willing to help.
