WILLY a BULLY?

Hi, I just got a new addition to my tank and his name is WILLY, unfortunatley he is over 3 times bigger than BOB (bob is a golden axo). Willy is so much more active than Bob and he keeps on trying to breathe air instead of water....is that normal, it seems he doesnt want to be in the tank, whereas Bob dont want to leave the bottom???
Heres a piccy of Willy anyways. Is he going to eat or attack Bob, im a bit worried about that too.

Hi sarah! it would not really be advisable that you have such a size diference in your axies. it would be good to see a pic though. also I am a little worried about your gravel. if either of them swallow that it could cause some real problems. it is hard to tell with your photo though. are they taking snaps at each other? depends on their nature I guess but I wouldn't have them together. hope someone else can help you out too.

Sarah - You should always quarantine new animals for at least 30 days before mixing them with your established animals.

As Mel suggested I too think the size difference could be dangerous. I would move the new axolotl to its own tank. If for some reason you are unable to do that then at least get a divider for your tank and keep them separate.

When axolotls are put in a new place they are more active and need time to settle in.
 
OK! So today I went and bought Large Black Stones from the Aquarium Shop, so that problems is out of the way.
I have removed Willy from the tank and I am quarantining him for the next month. I will have to put him back in the tank with Bob, but with a perspex seperator.
For their day together they didnt seem to bug each other, if anything Bob was walking all over Willy???
On one note though, Willy likes to float and takes big gulps of air, is this normal?
My Ph levels are always great and my Ammonia levels are currently 1ppm, but I am working on that (advice from other forum topics)

PS - how much more food should Willy eat compared to Bob?

Sarah - Changing the substrate can cause your tank to recycle. That could be why you are seeing a rise in ammonia.

As far as feeding goes, different axolotls eat different amounts. Your larger axolotl may actually eat less than your growing axolotl.

Young axolotls eat more as they are growing quickly.
