how many mealworms - merged posts

Hi there..I just got my first axie today.
The lady said she might'nt eat for a couple of days..
but I prepared a couple of mealworms and feed them to her anyway.
And she ate em!
I was just wondering how many mealworms im sposed to be feeding her each day
or second day.

In addition to that querie..Will an axie eat till its full or eats until all the food infront of it is gone?

Hi Sinead - I merged your 2 posts. If you need to add or amend an afterthought to a post you've just placed then use the edit button.

Am assuming you're chopping head off before feeding. It would be better if you fed earthworms if you could get them.

Amount to feed and when will vary depending on size/age of axie and temperature/season.

Under 10-12cm feed twice a day
12-15cm feed once a day
15-20cm or adult feed once every 2 days
adult/20cm+ once every 3=4 days.

The warmer/summer months axies tend to require more food, the cooler the temperature the less they'll be inclined to eat.

Axies are opportunistic eaters - they will if given the chance eat as much as you offer and still come back for more (we have one or two like that); so its very easy to overfeed. If you find uneaten/regurgitated food after an hour or so in its tank, then cut back on amount you're feeding= try and clean this up daily so it doesn't foul the tank, using a turkey baster if you can get one. You'll soon get used to it after a week or so. Our adults will eat an inch -2inch worm (sometimes chopped, sometimes whole). If s/he has trouble swallowing then consider chopping them in half as well.

Oh ok thank you alot Kapo, your replies are always helpful :D
Yes i do cut the hads of the meal worms..as i have been told they can cause injury to the delicate
skin of the axies throat and mouth.
My mum did try to feed her one without chopping..and she said she looked like she was trying to throw it back up..
So i informed her about it.
