HI, i found this cute little girl under my deck while doin some yard work today. My little brothers want to keep her as a pet, is this a safe (for her). Or will she die outside her natural environment. She is about 4-5 inches long in NB Canada. Also is she a worm eater? Thanks

From our FAQ:

I found a salamander/newt outside. Should I keep it?
Maybe, but probably not. First, you need to identify the species and verify that it is legal to keep that particular species in your state/country. Then you need to make sure you can provide the right foods, habitat, and temperature to keep it alive. Remember that newts and salamanders live a LONG time, so you are taking on a very long-term commitment.

Looks like a slimy sal ,if so it will eat worms, mine do .Even if it isn't i would bet it will still eat worms..

My first impression was that it looked like an Ambystomatid of some kind, perhaps Ambystoma laterale (blue spotted salamander) or a unisexual hybrid. However, the picture is kind of small so I can't be too sure.

It's probably a blue spotted sal. They're known in eastern Canada. Legality-wise, I can't say.

My first impression was also a blue spot or the parthogenic hybrids.
