I've been noticing for a while that one of my juvenile T karelini has been developing a marbled colouration. The photo's dont really show the light colour well but it is a shade of green. I know marbled newts and crested hybridise in the wild but i thought these were captive bred.

I'd have to see that guy/gal in person but he/she looks pretty normal to me. The ones I raised were anything from almost blue(to my colorblind eyes), to greenish to dark brown.

actually that looks pretty much like my karelinii. I keep mine aquatic which makes the greenish splotches a brighter color (some of them look almost blue), but if and when they haul out mine look very much like yours. It wouldn't be a stretch to say that ours are probably distant cousins, haha.

Mine as well. The splotches are kind of a greenish blue.

thanks for your replies Patrick ,joseph and kaysie, i have the other three crested species and one more karelini and none of them have this sort of colouration but if yours have thats good enough for me.

Anyone keeping other crested species mine giving an opinion on which is most colorful outside of breeding season? I find the slate blue of some individuals contrasting with the orangey underside of the tail really attractive. The one I held onto though, is brown.
