The Dallas Zoo is seeking a motivated herpetologist to fill the position of
Animal Keeper II within the Department of Herpetology. Responsibilities include daily care and
maintenance of a diverse collection of amphibians and reptiles, feeding,
cleaning, exhibit design, observation and documentation of animal behavior and
minor maintenance and communicating/educating zoo visitors on zoo programs.
Outdoor activities require lifting, bending, twisting, stooping, carrying and
extensive walking. Must be able to complete initial zookeeper training program
within 6-month probationary period. Must be able to follow all safety protocols
and work safely around potentially dangerous animals. Minimum qualifications
include 6 months experience in feeding and care of animals and a high school
degree or equivalent. A Bachelor's degree in life sciences may substitute for
the required experience. We are seeking an individual who is flexible,
self-motivated, innovative and a team player,
has experience with venomous reptiles and aquatic support systems for
amphibians and reptiles. Amphibian experience preferred. Position requires a physical, drug /alcohol testing and TB Testing. Salary range: $11.23 -
$18.52 hourly.
