Hi guys, hope someone can give me some advice.

Got a "rescued" Axolotl the other week, he's about 4", very thin, and looks like he's been to war! From what I know, he's been kept with fish in the past.

I've got him in his own 1ft tank, water conditions, set-up and temperature are about perfect. Seems happy enough, but can't keep worms down.

I've only really been trying him with worms and the odd catfish pellet - any help or suggestions appreciated!

Cheers, Phil

Maybe the worms are to big. Try come thing smaller bod worms of brine shrimp.

i agree with karrie it might be better to try some thing less bulky first.
thin strips of raw liver are also good, this will also help build him up without being bulky.
do you know what substrate it was kept on?
if it was gravell he might have a belly full.
dont know what you are keeping him on but bare floor or sand is by far safer.

Thanks guys, he's eating flies and crickets - so maybe the worms were too big. I'll try your suggestions and let you know in a few days.

Not sure what he was kept in before, but I use the "bare bottom" method :)

As long as he is eating something! One of my axies consistently vomits up worms (and non seem to be able to keep heart strips down) so Its just a matter of finding what agrees with yours. Try some blood worm mine will eat as much of this as I put down you can by frozen from most aquarium shops. Some axies will take slugs / snail (mine will only touch the later) catfish pellets will be taken readily if they are use to being handfed... dont know if yours is or not. If he is skinny may I suggest you feed little and often as you dont know how well he has been fed before he came to you and big meals could be a real shock to the system . . . its a good sign hes taking the food. My emergency ration is ramshorn snails (bigger than the axies head) when then slither around the axie will grab them before they go into the shell and rip it right out .... a good way of them getting little and often (you can buy these from your local garden store near the pond plants. emergencies only though cause otherwise its just mean.

You can also try ghost/glass shrimp.

Thanks guys, keeping down blood worm and small bits of earthworm now. Must have been too large for his starved stomach, not tried any shrimp yet. Cheers, Phil

i have been having the same problems but i think i was probably over feeding mine. glad yours is eating now x
