Hey guys,

Our 2 year old axolotl hasnt been eating recently. He has been alot more active, walking around his tank and digging big holes but all the levels are fine and there is no ammonia present!

We feed him a frozen bloodworm cube every two days.

Anyone got any idea why he might be off his food?

You can try live worms. What temp. is the tank?

Sick axie /not eating

Hi Ross
I am with Karrie /have you tried live food : eg garden worms/just wash them first
u can cut them in half if two big(it is the food chain)
Also check temp/water parameters.
But most of all read all on this site
I have been reading for over 11 hours now of and on
just read and keep asking these guys are brill
Dont worry
just keep asking and read all you can

This might sound silly but we dont like the idea of giving him live food - incase it hurts him! I know you guys all do it but we are just scared because we havent tried it before!

I dont know the exact temperature but its cold - its been alot warmer than this over the summer!

We this a 20% water change a few nights ago!

Are we feeding him too often?

Ross

I dont think you are feeding to often I feed my axie every second day and it seems fine. I didn't like feeding live worms either. But after i did it a few times it seems ok now. You just put the worm near your axies face and then it is gone.

About 4 weeks ago, we put our axolotl into a new tank. The internal filter is really powerful so a few days ago we turned it down because axolotl's dont like fast moving currents, right?

This is about the time that he stopped eating, do you think its got anything to do with the filter?

Hi mate, I'd say that's your problem. Now it's turned down, give him a couple of days to settle. They can go ages without food.

But he ate the food fine with the strong current which is why it doesnt make much sense!

Any idea why he started digging big holes - like right down to the glass at the bottom of the tank and then sitting in them?

Not sure mate, a wild guess would be the recent lower temperatures and habitat changes have got him in the mood for some lovin.

When I notice strange behavior - it's usually followed by some spawn. ...again just a guess mate, I'm no expert.

My Albino Neurus went 12 weeks altogether without eating any food, even now she only has a little snap every now and then
