Hi all ,
My 19 year old daughter is at uni studing philosophy/and the statistical effects that minerals have
on the the fuction that they have on the brian.
/mainly being the nervous system.
She is at the moment working with the uni lab looking at effects of diseases that high levels of minerals effect the brian.
on working in lab she has come up with some intersting facts .
first of all most axies used in labs in australia are kept in best of health, and treated very well/the key to all of this is the fasination of the axoloti / is its peter -pan ability to avoid growing up.
So far with this /my daughter has found and now a number of papers have been written,
any one giving salt baths should always use non/iodinezed salt, using normal cooking table salt is a no no/iodine compounds can make a axie over time to metamorphosis.
second ,
they have been trialing a ammonia remover,
ammonia is said to be the biggest killer of brain cells in the body, leading to very high stress levels.
What the uni has been using for just over 12 months is a product called prue maifan stone.
It has a bia-purified function/it instanly absorbs ammonia when water passes through it,unis have kept same product for 6 mths and still having a 1 results.
Paper i have got is from the marine biology unit of australia.
This product is available on ebay/i have just got sample from daughter but also orderd more.
Product in made by sunsun/
can be placed in any filler or as i have just done in a bag in tank.
Well i hope this is good info /mainly for all the threads about ammonia.
Regards Catherine.

I'd be wary about using this personally. The presence of ammonia generally tells you you have a water quality problem - having something that instantly absorbs the ammonia, to my way of thinking doesn't eliminate why you have the problem in the first place, be it newly cycling tank (hidden waste or other). It may eliminate the problem temporarily but might not be a permanent fix. How then would it e/affect a tank that is cycling and needs to go through the stage of rising ammonia-nitrite-nitrate? (the nitrogen cycle) This could in effect throw out the tank cycle and invariably cause more problems.

A fully cycled/established tank does not have an ammonia problem. In my opinion, poor water maintenance through lack of knowledge/poor advice and/or temperature or overcrowding a tank can cause ammonia problems which I don't think would effectively be treated through using this product.
