Hi i would like to buy a vivarium of my friend for my tiger salamanders, the vivarium is wooden and has like a plastic sort of coating on it, just wondering if anyone else uses a vivarium for there tigers and had any problems, as i have always used glass aquariums.
cheers,
Rich

As long as it is properly sealed and water tight you should be fine. I think the material your describing is melamine, Ive had no probs with it in the past but you cant really fill it with water like a tank. Any water would need to be in its own free standing container.

I would still go for the glass though. I, and some acquaintances I know of, use melamine vivs for large reptiles(beardies, iguanas, dragons and tegus), but its more to do with safety(its not as amusing as you think when you wake up in the night to a massive crashing noise to discover a bearded dragon no more than 12 inchs long decided its didnt like the basking rock where you put it and somehow rolled it straight through the glass doors of the viv) and cost effectiveness than anything else.
