well my axie is still sick...

the fungus is getting worse and worse...

im thinking perhaps it was too far advance for salt baths...

so should i try methylene blue?

if yes... where would i be able to purchase it?

i live in melbourne australia, so if anyone knows a store... please let me know...

ive been doing salt baths 3 times a day and then fridging her...

its not working...

=[

i dont want her to die...

but if its keeps going like this...

i think theres no other way for her...

Methylene Blue!

ok well i purchased the methylene blue, im guessing i need to half dose it, because its meant for fish, and well axies arnt fish are they?

but my question is, can i still keep my sick axie in a small container, because ive read on some forums that i need to keep her separate from my other axie.

If so, do i still keep her in the fridge

Hi Robbie,

I have not used that medication so not sure of the dosage. I would try a smaller dose for starters though as you have mentioned.

Do continue to keep your axolotl separate from your healthy one and keep her in the fridge as that is the best place for a sick axolotl.

I hope it works out for your axolotl~

hmmm...

ok... so...

ill treat the water thats in the fridge yeah?

and then... ill still keep it in the fridge... right?

do i still do salt baths?...

and what about water changes... do i just keep doing daily water changes... and then treating the water everyday... or do i let it stand for a few days before i change the water thats in the fridge?

please and thankyou

robbie

i think i read about this before somewhere. I think the best thing is 1 salt bath and 1 methylene blue bath at half does a day. Keep a declorinated tank of water in the fridge for when yor not bathing your axie and bottles of dechlorinated water aswell for your water changes. Also use this water for the salt bathes and meth blue baths so that your axie is always in water the same temperature. Always separate your sick axie from others. So my best bet is to just continue with keeping it in the fridge with salt baths and meth blue baths if its not getting better. I hope this helps and that your axie starts to improve soon.

ok...

so ive been looking around the sight, stuff to do with meth blue,

and ive read that its a smart idea to do salt baths, but then treat the water in the fridge with the meth blue, so the fungus dosnt have a chance to come back...

i think its a good idea, and ive started the treatment...

but NOW... my question is... do i still do salt baths 3 times a day, i think i might cut it down to 2 a day, because im finding it really hard to keep up especially with school everyday.

thanks for all the replies, i hope this meth blue stuff works...

2 salt baths a day is fine. Just keep it up and hopefully she get better.

Hi Robbie,

I'm sorry to hear your axie isn't improving.

How long have you been treating her for fungus?

Could you take some pictures of the fungus from different angles and post them so we can have a look?

Another member sent me these vet contacts that you may wish to consider if the methylene blue and salt seem not to be working (ie. it may be something other than fungus) - I'm told each of these vets deals in 'out of the ordinary' pets like our axies. Dr Greenwood mentions axies specifically on his practice's website.

Cheers J.
