Hello,

I'm a bit concerned about my adult chinese firebelly newts' tank. It seems that over the past couple of weeks, there has been this barely white floating flakey substance on the surface of the water. Renovations were being done in my apartment, and I figured it may be dust ( even though I tried as hard as I could to minimize this from happening) , but I've done a couple of cleans since then to try and rid my tank of this, but it seems to stick around, anyways. Is this serious? My newts seem happy and healthy, as always.

Re: newts' water

Thanks for the advice! I read through this page and did another clean today as well as trying to remove this stuff with a paper towel. Some of it still remains, as it's all over the tank's surface. It's not really a film at all, but little flecks of white on the surface...I'm hoping this is all it is. The renovations included painting the walls with white paint. Hopefully, the filter will get the rest of it, or it will all go away after a couple of more cleans.
