I named him (it) Sal Paradise after the character in Jack Kerouac's novel "On the Road"

I thought it was fitting Sal... salamander.

I suppose it's middle name can be "Amander", Sal Amander Paradise.

Haha. :D

P.S.
My boyfriend thinks I'm crazy.

He's a beautiful gold Jess.

I would say his name is a mouthful and a half "Sal Amander Paradise" - but as the axie won't come when called anyway it shouldn't be a problem I guess.

If Sal turns out to be a girl, you could make it 'Sally' ;)

Congrats~~ Maybe you could make the middle name 'Amanda', more subtle :p

S/he is a beautiful axie. :)

So does mine... especially when he catches me having a conversation with Maxolotl ;)

Congrats and beautiful gold.

My husband thought I was loosing my mind when I would talk to Pira and Ori. UNTIL I caught him talking to them too!!!!!!

I think Sal(ly) hates me. All (s)he does is sit in the corner of the tank behind a big rock.

I tried to feed him/her this morning and (s)he sucked it in and then spit it back out.

:(

Oh Jess of course s/he doesn't hate you! First of all, it's an amphibian. It is not capable of having emotions like hate. Second of all, it is absolutely, perfectly normal for a new axolotl to hide. It may even do this for a couple of weeks. It almost certainly will do it for several days. It is in unfamiliar territory after the ordeal of being transported.

Sucking in food and spitting it out again is also a way that many axolotls eat. Perhaps if you just drop the food near its nose and then hide (behind your own plant haha) so it has privacy to eat?

Your new pet will calm down soon enough - and so will its keeper, I assume. ;)

I'm sure I will. Lol.

(S)He seems to be doing really well. I'm very pleased.

I'm eager to find out if it's a male or female.

I'm also eager to know how old it is, it's about 4 inches long.

Your axie is gorgeous! Such a beautiful color! I just got mine about a month ago and she still spends alot of time behind her rock in the corner just peeking out on the world. She was about 4 inches when I first got her too, Don't quote me on this but I think someone told me she was probably between 6 and 8 months old? I could be wrong though, as for eating, just think if someone took you and threw you in a box and you were stuck in the dark for a really long time and then when you came out you were in a completely different place with different people, you would probably lose your appetite too. haha thank goodness they don't do that to humans lol. Your axie will grow up big and strong and fantastic. No worries. Congrats on being a new parent.

And my boyfriend thinks i have completely lost my mind and when I talk to my axolotl he looks at me like "why am I dating you" but then I do catch him in there poking at her through the glass haha. No one can resist the tiny smile of the axolotl!

Doesn't the person you got her/him from know when s/he hatched? At 4 inches I would guess s/he is about 2 months old. Size varies greatly, though, between individual axolotls. You will need to wait a good half-year before knowing her sex, unless you can run a quick DNA test on her. :D

Enjoy!

I don't think a DNA test would be a good idea right now. Its pretty aggravated at me I'm sure.

I got it from Ward's , a scientific supply site, so I really don't know if they would know when it hatched or not.

Hello

He/she is such a wonderful gold axolotl and a lovely name he/she has.

See you later

My axie hasn't eaten in two days. I checked the ammonia level yesterday and it was about .25 ppm so I did a water change. Everything else was fine, temp. was fine.

I'm just starting to get a little worried because it hasn't eaten in two days, and it should be eating about twice a day for its age.
