Hi

new to this site but member of many others......

I have 2 chinese fire bellied newts in a 2 foot tank atm and i was wondering if i can put any other types of newts with them???


I was wondering aswell...........i saw a picture of a newt black and yellow it was could you give me the name of it as i would really like to look into having one

(not in same tank....iv got a exo terra 30x30x30 sitting around the house needing new owners!)

The short, simple answer is NO. Mixing species is nearly always a bad idea. Take a look here for past experiences- http://www.caudata.org/cc/articles/Mixing_disasters.shtml

As for identifying your black and yellow newt, you need to be a bit more specific. Was it a newt or a salamander?

This is the only black and yellow newt that I know of- http://www.caudata.org/cc/species/Neurergus/N_strauchii.shtml

Additionally it could've been a spotted salamander (Ambystoma maculatum) or a species of Fire salamander (salamandra). The list just goes on.
