Default Hi from Virginia

Hello,
My name is Bryan .... I recently signed up due to my interest in the salamanders found in Va....especially Ambystoma specie (tiger salamanders).
I am actively setting up a terrarium for my daughter.
Does anyone know the rules about owning and or purchasing tiger salamanders in Virginia?
Thanks!
Bryan

Well from one Virginian to another, welcome to the forum.

Unfotunately for us, Ambystoma tigrinum is a state endangered species so that automatically makes it protected from us keeping it. The General Assembly went one step further and banned us from owning any species of tiger salamander without a permit (which from what I have been told is very hard to get). That regulation can be found here, under the very last section.

Hello,
Well that kinda stinks about the tigers ... i remember how i really enjoyed my tiger when i was younger (late 80's)...i guess before they were protected.
Back to the drawing board for a specie to put in her terrarium.....hmmm.
Bryan

Ambystoma maculatum would be a good second choice. They are almost as big but not quite as bold at first.
