Default Hello from Victoria, Australia

Hello everyone.
I'm Kerry, and this is my second foray into Axolotl keeping. My first axolotls lasted for a few years, until my niece decided they would like a bubble bath Sadly, they didn't.
So I decided to wait until she was old enough to beat*, and now I am back into axolotl keeping.
I have just put a nice little albino axolotl into the tank, and he/she seems happy.
Discovering this forum and the Axololt.org site has proven a massive help this time, so thanks for sharing all the valuable info
It's a wonder my first axies lived as long as they did...
The best info by far- No Gravel or Small Stones. I can't believe the size of some of the stones removed from some of your axolotls.
On that note, I have to tell you about probably the only knowledgeable-about-axolotls pet shop employee in Australia**
My daughter went into our local-est pet shop (an hour away) and asked for sand for the tank.
The boss of course said "Oh no, gravel is fine for axolotls"
Daughter replied "Mum is fairly insistent on sand, she specified fine sand"
Boss poo-poohed her, and pointed out the prettily coloured gravel.
Employee stepped in and said "She's right. Axolotls will swallow gravel and pebbles, and it can kill them. Best get the sand"
Daughter bought sand and left the Boss and employee arguing merrily.
Knowledgeable pet shop workers, they do exist!
I hope to learn more from you all.
Cheers.
Kerry.

*joke.
**again, a joke.

Greetings Kerry. Your story is too representative of what often happens in pet shops and receiving incorrect information..nice to hear that an employee offered a correction - good for your daughter. Best of luck with your new axolotl and welcome aboard!
