Default C. pyrrhogaster Sasayame

Now that the macro lens is firmly fixed on my camera body I'm afraid you lot are going to have to put up with more newt photos. This time it's the Cynops pyrrhogaster, which is a beautiful and hardy species. I've been looking after a pair for Jesper D for a number of years and with little effort on my behalf they've gone from a pair to a small family of 5. They're avid egg eaters but one always seems to miss the massacre each year .

Stunning!!! The last one is my favorite. The "guys" just hanging out.

Wallpaper material? I think so!

Keep them coming Mark, those are some beautiful newts.

Mitch

Great photos. I don't know how you get your guys to put on such impressive blue highlights.

Gorgeous newts! I can't wait for mine to reach adulthood.

Was the orginal pair you started out with WC?

I bet if you look closely at yours you'll see they have just as good highlights. I certainly wouldn't know how to make them brighter. I'm sure I've seen males with more blue than these though.

I believe the original adult pair are quite old and were purchased from a pet shop in Sweden, so definitely wild caught. The male was in a bad state, with broken jaw and sores etc. Jesper nursed it back to health and here he is today still strutting his stuff with a jaunty jaw line. The younger male is a real pest, zipping around all day, grabbing the female by the head and fanning. She ignores him and carries on as if he doesn't exist.

I tried to take a decent pic of one of my males, but my camera is rubbish, the tank´s front is a bit filthy, and the little buggers wouldn´t stand still....so the pictures are awful xD
However, i realize that you were right and that mine, with flash of course, do look just about the same as yours, Mark. Without flash and with the low level of light in their tank they certainly don´t look as good.
I wish i could afford a good camera...your pictures are always gorgeous.

PS: excuse the dreadful quality of the pic....
