Fire-Belly & Sword-Tail Newts (Cynops & Hypselotriton) Perhaps the most famous and frequently bred newts in captivity, the fire-bellied newts and sword-tail newts are well known throughout the world as being excellent, gregarious captives.

The quality of your photos is quite all right, Tomas! And don't be ashamed of hydra; these kinds of critters are the sign of a healthy tank, in my opinion. Your newts are lovely, keep up the good work!!!

Nice photos of some nice Sasayama, Tommy!

I see you have some with golden coloration in the throat area especially, which is something I really like in this type of C. pyrrhogaster.

After short terrestrial period again aquatic:

(The diet of left one consisted of tubifex worms and he is yellow.The second one was fed by daphnia - note the solid red colour!)

Food has influence over colour? Ive seen the color of fish vary by the fat content of their food, but i have'nt heard of it in newts. thats pretty cool!Click the image to open in full size.
