Kaiseri aquatic set up.

After keepimg my Kaiseri aquatic for the last 2 breedings i noticed a large amount of debris had built up under the rocks. I was also concened that if i had to move any rocks that the Kaiseri might get accidently squashed in between the lower rocks.
I made a fame from egg-crate, the frame is zip-tied together so no glues are used. After the zip-ties are trimmed back i rub the whole thing over with sandpaper in case of any sharp eges. The rocks and plants are planted in the frame creating lots of caves and an easy to clean aquarium floor. The kaiseri seem very content.

I think in a few months time you wont see any plastic, the java moss is already growing through it and i am going to tie a few more anubias to the sides of the frame.This way i can still remove any rocks to collect eggs and the plants will stay attached to the frame.

Very interesting aquascape :] I bet the Kaiseri like it. I may keep them fully aquatic throughout this winter, it looks like they are about to breed right now for some reason in the fall rather than spring.

Mine are also getting ready to breed, the female in picture 4 is filling up with eggs.I have kept a group of 12 back from a Jan 2011 breeding and will see if they breed this time. I have 5 males tail fanning at the moment and 1 female filling up with eggs, the other 6 are a bit slower maturing, i am hoping that they are females.

Very different colouration between two of the newts pictured. Great setup aswell, what is your reason for not filling the tank to the brim out of interest?

The top of the frame is just below the waters surface with plants and rocks creating an area out of the water, if the newts come out of the water i can see them on the land area, if i was filled to the top i would not see if they were on land.They also like to sit in the plastic plants that run up the back of the tank, out of the water The water is 12 inches deep.
If you keep Kaiseri terrestrial the orange can fade a bit(not always, and just on a couple of the 12) as they are not getting brineshrimp and daphnia, these have only just gone aquatic after over a year in a terrestrial set up.

Thanks for the info davo My guys are bering fed exclusively on lobworms (fussy buggers) right now, they have no orange colouration whatsoever- I was actually beginning to wonder if the ones I seen on this site were perhaps an N.Kaiseri sub species lol

I have never found them fussy eaters, mine eat pretty much anything i put in, live bloodworm, lesser waxworm larvae, live daphnia, live brineshrimp, earthworms. I have just started to feed frozen brineshrimp once a week, i did not think they would eat it but a fellow member on here uses it and they ate it straight away.

I think yours are having you on a bit!

Definitley get plenty of daphnia and brineshrimp in them to improve the orange colours.
