Aneides lugubris hatchings

This is a discussion on Aneides lugubris hatchings within the Plethodontids and Lungless Salamanders (Bolitoglossa, Eurycea, Plethodon, etc.) forums, part of the Species, Genus & Family Discussions category; One of my lug clutches has emerged and they're starting to explore....

Plethodontids and Lungless Salamanders (Bolitoglossa, Eurycea, Plethodon, etc.) The largest, and one of the most diverse groups of salamanders, these salamanders have all evolved to breathe solely through their skin and are found almost exclusively in North America.

Awesome job, as always Russ. You make Aneides breeding look too easy. I'm still having trouble sexing all my young aeneus. Looks like the outline of the upper jaw might be dimorphic from the one mature pair I have, but so far can't find any other traits to compare. Still no eggs visible in any of them.

Usually I could tell the gender of adult aeneus just by the head shape, with the male's being overall broader and more defined.
