Default Odd coloration in Spring salamander larva

I have a Gyrinophilus porphyriticus porphyriticus (Northern spring salamander) larva that seems to have an odd coloration to it. At first I thought it was diseased because of it so I seperated it but it's been like this for qutie a few months now, at least 4 ot 5, so now I am not so sure it is. I was just curious if anyone has seen this type of coloration before in this species before or heck, any other larva?

Usually none of my critters get names but this one has been named "Tuna" by my kids because it has the coloration of a dead fish.

That is strange! It'll be interesting to see if the odd pattern carries through metamorphosis.

Looks like piebaldism, very interesting indeed. I wonder how the colours will change with age.

Aye, if that is not a piebald, I'll have my wife eat my field herpin' hat.

Very interesting specimen!

Just a little update. Here is what it looks like today, still odd looking.

As for a reference, they are supposed to be this color.
