Okay, so I got home from college today to find that my fire belly Newt escape his tank. This usually wouldn't be a problem, apart from this morning he/she was scratching at the glass like she/he was looking for a mate. Could this be why it escaped? Sent from my R800i using Tapatalk 2 |

Hope you found the little guy in time! I find it more likely that your newt escaped because something is not right about its habitat, rather than its looking for companionship. Get a tight fitting lid ASAP. Make sure your temps are cool and water quality is good.

It could be a heat issue - one of my N. kaiseri has a tendency to start climbing the sides of the tank when the room is warmer than usual, and my juvenile Chinese Fire-belly sits on top of his cave in warm weather
