My local pet store has 3 fire salamanders. They seem to be good sized, about 7" each. They are on sale for $38 each and were $50. Is this a good deal? The manager said she has to talk to the corperate office but shes sure if i buy 2 or all 3 i cant get a discount from the regular price which should be better than the sale price. The tank temp seemed to be 80*. Im not too familiar with this species but that seems a tad warm. I keep my tigers at 72* Speaking of, is it okay to mix these with my tigers? I have 2 barred about the same size. I know its frowned upon to mix species but ive seen spotted and tigers in the same tank and be just fine being they are from the same family i believe. |

That's a good price, but I would be worried about them being kept at that temperature for a long time. No, you cannot keep them with your tigers. They're not from the same family, and tigers are much more aggressive than fire sals.

Also, adult fire salamanders being sold at pet-shops in the USA are likely to be illegal imports. The temps are terribly inadequate, i doubt those animals are healthy. If you end up buying these (which i wouldn´t recommend)...definitely not ok to mix them.

I dont know everything about them but I have seen them in pet stores in the same tank and they always seem to be fighting and dont look healthy at all. They are cold-blooded and are supposed to be kept at temperatures in the 60s and 70s but should not exeed 78 degrees, at least thats what I learned. Good luck:)
