Default Hurt Axolotl help!

Hello,

I have had my axolotl Stanley for roughly six months. He gained a tank mate Stella about a month later. I had some issues getting the tank levels correct but since I have been able to level everything out except Nitrate. It has never seemed to bother them though and I continued to do 20% water changes once a week at least. Now Stanley has some really bad looking gashes on his leg and foot that seemed to appear overnight. I have fridge him and prepared a salt bath just to be ready. Can anybody give me any input on what this issue could be? Please and thank you.

Is there anything sharp he could have gashed himself on? Is the new axie significantly different in size? That might cause aggression. Please see these wound articles:

No I don't think there's anything to gash himself on at all. Just one log hide out in the tank. And they are very similar in size and have been together a long time with no issues. There seems to be fungus on his arm so currently he is getting salt baths. I'm lost and very worried.

This is a tough situation. THere is no definitive answer that will definitely save him. I hope the salt baths work.

I would try a tea bath they have anti fungal properties. Salt baths don't really work in my opinion, they just tighten the skin. Good luck!

Anyone have any other ideas? The fungus is much better but a small spot is still on his hand and won't seem to go away. I don't want to put him back in the tank with the fungus. He's been in the fridge iver 2 weeks and still hasn't eaten.

Also is it better for the open wound to leave him in the fridge to heal or reintroduce him to the tank?
