I have a water fall type. I took off the intake part added part of a hose from my gravel vacuum. It goes under the sand comes up. I put large pebbles more like rocks around the end so that cracker would not get sucked in. I put A big tall fake tree thing under the water fall part to brake the current. Works good for me.

Alex, in your other thread it looked like you have a 4 foot tank. In a tank that large, a canister filter is highly recommended. They're a little on the expensive side, but I feel they're the only way to really filter a large tank.

alex - I use a fluval 204 with a spray bar on my 40 gallon axolotl tank, and it works great.

I also use fluval filters on three aquariums of fish, I have been using them for about 5 years now with no problems with needing replacement parts or anything like that.
