eek 380lph on a 50L tank, thats like 7.6x per hour. unless you can buffer that flow somehow i wouldnt use it personally.

kh is the measure of carbonate and bicarbonate ion concentrations in water, a low kh means your very suseptable to ph swings which isnt good, you can up this by using birg grit placed in a stocking in your filters. kh and gh you normally only have to test for if you have soft water or picky fish, as low gh and kh normally go hand in hand with a low ph. youd want them both around the 7-11D mark or 100-200ppm, thats what most peoples normal tanks are and my gh and kh test kit says those are good for swordtails, guppies, mollies etc which prefer harder water.

ammonia and nitrite need to be 0, no other reading is acceptable. nitrate needs to be under 40ppm, but obviously as low as you can keep it without going insane with water changes lol

a neutral ph is fine, and theres the acceptable range on axolotl.org, think its like something from 6.4-8?

if your temperature gets to 24C consider it deadly.

dont freak too much about water, fiddling with it is normally a waste of time when your animals can live happily in plain water, axies arent fussy really cause 'less than perfect water is better than fluctuating water'

hope that helped!

alright! Thank u Sharn! Yeh i did know most of this stuff, i just wanna hear what other ppl do. I think i will give the pet shop some of my water and ask them to test it out. If its too low in kh / gh (which should i test for?? both?? ) then i will have to buy the test and aquarium salt. if it's within the range, it's ok. U did right it out so understandable tho! so thank u for that!!!
so is 23C ok then??? coz it's just out of summer here, but aus is a very fluctuating place...yesterday was 23C and on sunday it'll be 37C, this can happen just from one day to another tho....i'll be sure to always have my air con on, it if gets hotter than 24 inside now!!!

yip, you wana test for both kh and gh. you can buffer both up by adding bird grit (the shell stuff they eat) to your filters in a stocking. works wonders to get them up without stressing about adding chemicals or water during changes (i keep a bit in my aging barrel for my discus).

23C is a bit high in tank, id try get it down to say 20-21 if you could but i understand its hard, just do your best. maybe it might be worth looking into those home made chillers?

i think theres some directions in the housing part? if not just pm one of the people that have made one, im sure they could help you out. basically a sump except water goes into pipes with ice around them to cool the water before it flows back into the tank

wouldn't the ice eventually melt? therefor loosing its purpose of cooling the pipe??
